English as a New Language (ENL)

Annual Assessments

  • New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT)

  • New York State ELA Grades 3-8 (The NYSESLAT can be taken in lieu of the ELA if the child has been in school for less than one year)

  • New York State Math Grades 3 - 8 (ESL Students are given extra time, time and a half, to complete this examination. They also have the option of taking the exam in their native language, if it is offered in said language, can have a translator if one is available, and/or can have a copy of the exam in both English and said language, if exam is offered in such language.)

  • New York State Science Grades 4 & 8 (ESL Students are given extra time, time and a half, to complete this examination. They also have the option of taking the exam in their native language, if it is offered in said language, can have a translator if one is available, and/or can have a copy of the exam in both English and said language, if exam is offered in such language.)

ENL Program Exit

  • Passing of the NYSESLAT
  • Satisfactory achievement in grade level content area material
  • Recommendation of TESOL specialists in collaboration with the School Support Team.
