A Message from the William E. Cottle Elementary School- The Cottle Weekly

January 30, 2026

Dear Cottle Families,

Can you believe it, February is already upon us! This month is full of exciting events and fun learning opportunities. We will celebrate Groundhog Day and learn about whether spring will come early or if winter will stay a little longer. February is also Black History Month, a time to honor and learn about inspiring people in history. Black History Month is an annual celebration recognizing the achievements, history, and contributions of Black individuals and communities. Observed in February in the U.S. and Canada (and in October in the U.K. and Ireland), it highlights key figures, movements, and events that have shaped history, from the civil rights movement to cultural and scientific advancements. It serves as a time for education, reflection, and honoring the resilience and impact of Black individuals throughout history.

Valentine's Day also falls in the month of February. As Valentine’s Day approaches, we’re excited to celebrate the joy and kindness this special day brings to our school community. As Valentine’s Day approaches, we are excited to share an update regarding our upcoming classroom celebrations, which will take place on Friday, February 13, 2026.

This year, we are expanding our Valentine’s Day celebration guidelines to allow for greater flexibility in what students may bring to share with classmates. Students are welcome to bring Valentine’s cards, small age-appropriate items, and non-food goodie bags to exchange with one another. We know how much our children look forward to these moments, and we are happy to provide additional opportunities for our Cottle Cubs to fully enjoy the fun and excitement of the day.

Last week’s Heart to Heart Dance, sponsored by our amazing PTA, was a huge success! A big shout-out and heartfelt thank you to the PTA and all of the volunteers for making this wonderful event a reality.
