A Message from the William E. Cottle Elementary School- The Cottle Weekly
January 17, 2025
Dear families,
Cold enough for you? So far, January’s weather has been a roller coaster from subfreezing temperatures to 40 degrees! Weather permitting, we will continue to encourage outdoor activity for students whenever possible. Thanks to the watchful supervision by our dedicated teachers and staff, our students have been able to enjoy some fun outdoors. Recess can be a much-needed respite for both body and mind!
It was a pleasure to meet with so many Cottle parents (in person and virtually) at this week’s Principals’ Coffees. Special thanks to our Interim Director of Special Education, Ms. Laurie Bauer, and to our School Counselor, Ms. Silver for joining us and for their helpful and informative Q & A and presentations. We always welcome all your questions, and we appreciate all your feedback!
Next week on Wednesday, January 22, and Thursday, January 23, we will be holding registration for next September’s incoming Kindergarten students. Registration will be in person from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on both days in the WEC Auditorium. Students with last names beginning A – L can register on Wednesday, January 22, and students with last names beginning M – Z can register on Thursday, January 23. If you have any questions about the registration process, please call the WEC Main Office.
Also, next week on Thursday, January 23, at 7:00 p.m., the Tuckahoe PTA Community Service Committee is partnering with WEC to offer a night of doing good in our community. Cottle Cubs in grades 3-5 (along with an adult chaperone) are invited to attend Community Service Night in the WEC Cafeteria. There will be several activity stations that students can rotate through that will benefit local nonprofit organizations. Instilling the importance of community service at a young age can help raise conscientious citizens who are committed to contributing to their community. Helping others is also a great way to improve your own mood and self-esteem. We hope you'll take advantage of this opportunity!
The Board of Education partnered with District Wise Search Consultants to help identify our next Superintendent, succeeding Dr. Goodman at the end of the school year. To ensure a collaborative process, District Wise will gather input from stakeholders about the qualities we should seek in Tuckahoe's next educational leader. We invite you to share your thoughts through a survey created by District Wise, which also includes questions about the Board's strategic plan. You can access the survey here: District Survey. Additionally, a community forum will be held on January 27th in the High School/Middle School Cafeteria. More details will follow. Thank you for your input and support in this important process.

We hope you will enjoy the day and will also share its significance with your children. The holiday is a good time to reinforce with your children the importance of treating all people with fairness, dignity, and respect.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact us, and thank you for your continued support and involvement in education at Cottle!
