Principal's Weekly Message

January 12, 2018

Dear Families,

Welcome back from holiday break! After an abbreviated first week, we have jumped right back into our Cottle routine.  Mr. Cuglietto and I have found that our students have immediately powered back up after their vacation and are starting the new year with a renewed focus on their schoolwork. Our teachers are busy with a January full of teaching and much professional learning and reflection. This time of year is when we see many students take giant leaps in their learning, which is a true testament to all the work being done at school and at home since the start of the school year. Let’s keep up the positive growth!

As a reminder, there is no school on Monday January 15th in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s passing. Let us all take a moment to remember Dr. King and his important contributions to the Civil Rights Movement. We should all follow Dr. King’s message of justice and equality for all.

Our annual science fair will be held Wednesday, January 17th through Friday, January 19th in the Cottle gymnasium.  Our students’ experiment boards will be on display and all participants will have a chance to present their experiments as well as observe other experiments at the fair. Parents are invited to come in and visit the science fair. The schedule was sent home with the students and can be downloaded here. Please refer to the schedule to see where and when your child's grade will be presenting.

The Lice Lady of Westchester will be back on January 18th for a school-wide lice screening. We thank the Tuckahoe PTA and the District Athletic Department for supporting this important health initiative.

Mr. Cuglietto and myself, in collaboration with the Superintendent’s office, continue to meet and work on the contingency plans for the 2018-19 school year and beyond.  While we face difficult decisions, we are working diligently to address the critical needs of our students and will communicate information as it becomes available in the coming months.  As always, we thank you for your support and cooperation in this matter.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Peter Kilgallen and Louis Cuglietto

SNACK BUDDIES

Please consider supporting a new program called Snack Buddies that two 9th graders from Tuckahoe High School, James Galati and Matthew Kern, would like to get started here at Cottle. They are asking the Tuckahoe School Community to help make Snack Buddies a success by donating healthy snacks.  If you would be willing to help support the Snack Buddies program, please visit their website https://sites.google.com/view/snack-buddies/home. They are asking for individual wrapped healthy snacks that are peanut free.  On January 26, 2018 between 5:00-6:00 PM, James and Matthew will be at Cottle to collect the snack donations.
