A Message from the William E. Cottle Elementary School- The Cottle Weekly

April 12, 2024

As winter's frost melts away, nature awakens in a symphony of vibrant colors and melodies, ushering in the arrival of spring. With each passing day, the sun's warmth grows stronger, coaxing delicate buds to unfurl and flowers to bloom, painting the world in a tapestry of pastel hues. The air is infused with the sweet fragrance of blossoms, and the melody of birdsong fills the air, creating a sense of renewal and hope. As we embrace the longer days and milder temperatures, spring invites us to shed the layers of winter and embrace the promise of new beginnings, growth, and endless possibilities.

We hope everyone enjoyed watching the solar eclipses on Monday, both solar and lunar eclipses, captivate the human imagination with their stunning celestial displays. During a total solar eclipse, the sky darkens dramatically as the moon completely blocks out the sun, revealing the sun's corona, its outer atmosphere, in a breathtaking spectacle. Eclipses serve not only as awe-inspiring celestial events but also as important scientific phenomena, providing astronomers with valuable opportunities to study the sun, moon, and Earth's interactions in space. Throughout history, eclipses have sparked curiosity, inspired mythologies, and served as reminders of the vastness and wonder of the universe. Whether witnessed through ancient cultures' legends or observed through modern scientific research, eclipses continue to fascinate and inspire humanity's quest for understanding the cosmos.

Our Kindergartners embark on a journey back in time this week with a charming field trip to Muscoot Farm. This historic farm offers a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Our Kindergartners immersed themselves in the rustic charm of a bygone era, exploring the sprawling grounds and interacting with a variety of farm animals. From feeding the chickens to petting the goats, every moment was filled with hands-on learning and discovery. Students  leisurely strolled along the winding nature trails, breathed in the fresh country air, and savored the simple pleasures of farm life. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, history buff, or simply seeking a peaceful retreat, Muscoot Farm promises an unforgettable adventure for all ages.

We are also coming up on the time for New York State assessments.  The NYS English Language Arts assessments will be administered during morning sessions on Tuesday, April 16, and Wednesday, April 17.  The NYS Math assessments will be administered on Wednesday, May 1, and Thursday, May 2.  The NYS Gr. 5 Science assessment will be administered on Tuesday, May 14, and Wednesday, May 15.

This time of year is a very busy one, and it will go by quickly.  There will be many exciting events to plan for, including all our annual Spring Concerts, field trips, the PTA Spring Boutique, the PTA Spring Social, and, before you know it, we will be holding Kindergarten and Grade 5 graduations!  More specific information regarding these and other happenings will follow in the Weekly Cottle and on the PTA website.
